Elk Brewery and Andrew Grashuis
The Place – Elk Brewery: A modern beer garden with years of planning behind it, Elk Brewery opened in 2014 and was an immediate microbrew hit, eventually leading to a second location in Comstock Park. Elk is known for its fun approach to fruit-infused ales, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
The Business Leader – Andrew Grashuis: While Andrew’s family ran a successful brokerage for many years, Andrew wanted to improve the experience and bring his own ideas to the real estate world, moving away from a traditional model and towards a team-based home services organization. The result is the Andrew Grashuis Collection, a team of skilled brokers connected to a network of service providers throughout West Michigan that can provide buyers and sellers with the cutting edge marketing, staging, and negotiations necessary for all types of property sales.
The Secrets Behind Maintaining Career Passion
We talked with Andrew Grashuis about just how you can maintain your career-oriented passion through the years. Here are a few things we learned.
1. Understand Your Own Talents
True passion and career success come from exploiting your own talent: Don’t just depend on what others have done before you, or the industry standard business model. Advance your organization using your own innovative abilities.
2. Find Something to Care About with Every Project
Not every real estate transaction involves the perfect house or most exciting clients. That’s why it’s important to keep an open mind and look for something that you find interesting about every project. There’s always something!
3. Connect with the People Themselves, Not Just the Product
It doesn’t matter if you are in a people-oriented industry or not – you need to connect with the people around. First, this makes your job feel a lot better. Second, it’s pretty great for networking, too!
4. Seek Passion in Your Team
When putting together a team or hiring new employees, look for complementary passion on their part. Not everyone needs to be manic 24/7, but two passionate workers will be able to encourage one another even when the days get long.
5. Understand that Reaching the Sweet Spot Takes Time
Building a business is hard work, and it often takes years before you find the balance that allows you to really enjoy what you do. Work toward that place, and don’t worry if it doesn’t happen right away. These things take time!
6. Get Out and Stay Busy
Know when the monotonous parts of the job are catching up on you, and don’t be afraid to get up, start moving, and find a more active project to help recharge your mind.
